Romania is situated in the north of the Balkan Peninsula on the western shores of the Black Sea. It enjoys great natural beauty and diversity and a rich cultural heritage. Romania enchants visitors with its scenic mountain landscapes and unspoiled countryside areas, and also with its historic cities and its busy capital. Over the last decade Romania had undergone a significant development and it is one of the recent members of the European Union. Tourists from western countries might still, even today, enjoy some surprising experiences in Romania.

This is a large country which can sometimes be shocking with contrasts: some cities are truly Western Europe while some villages can seem to have been brought back from the past. While it has significant cultural similarities with other Balkan states, it is regarded as unique due to its strong Latin heritage.

Romania differs from other Central and Eastern European countries from many points of view, which makes it an especially interesting tourist destination. In the past two decades the tourism of Romania has undergone unprecedented improvement. Due to its favourable natural endowments, the country has become an important power in the fields of medical and dental tourism in Central & Eastern Europe.

Romania is an enchanting destination for those who want to combine dental work with tourism: glorious mountains, pristine scenery, medieval fortresses, 27 UNESCO world heritage objectives, historical sites and now, membership in the European Union since 2007, so you can get ready for many changes.

What you need to know before travelling to Romania

Romania has been an EU member state since 2007, therefore, the residents of other EU member states can cross our borders with valid identity documents but without a passport or a visa. The residents of other countries must possess a valid passport and, if necessary, a visa to enter Romania. You can obtain a visa at the Romanian embassy located in your country.

Romania has a temperate climate, with the four distinct seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter. For Bucharest the mean annual temperature is +10-12°C, being the lowest in January (-7-10°C), and the highest in July-August (27-32°C). Romania is situated in the Eastern European Time Zone (EET), which is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).

The official Romanian currency is the Romanian Leu (RON), but you can pay in Euros at some hotels, restaurants and, of course, at our dental clinic.

In Romania public holidays are national banking holidays as follows. On January 1 and 2, Easter Sunday and Monday, May 1, Rusalii Holiday in June for one friday or monday,  National Day on December 1 and at Christmas on December 25 and 26, most shops and offices are closed.

If you are travelling by car you need to observe the following speed limits in Romania:

Highways                  

minimum 60 km/h and maximum 130 km/h

Expressways                                         

maximum 110 km/h

Country roads, outside urban areas

maximum 90 km/h

In urban areas                                         

maximum 50 km/h

You need to pay a highway toll in Romania. You can purchase a so-called e-sticker vignette valid for 7 days, one month, three months or a year for your D2 vehicle. Upon purchase you need to give the registration number of your car,  then you will receive a sticker and a receipt, which you need to keep.
